Chemical sunscreen filters
You've probably seen videos calling chemical sunscreen filters unsafe. Here's the calm version: the FDA has asked for more safety data on some older filters, but 'we'd like more data' is not the same as 'this is harmful,' and the FDA still tells everyone to keep wearing sunscreen daily. Both mineral (zinc, titanium) and chemical sunscreens protect your skin. The best one is simply the one you'll actually put on every morning.
what the evidence says
FDA's 2019 proposed order rates zinc oxide and titanium dioxide safe and effective and lists several chemical filters as needing more data (a data gap, not a harm finding); AAD treats both types as acceptable, suggesting mineral for sensitive skin.
