Zinc supplements for acne
Zinc gets talked up as a natural acne fix, and it does have some anti-inflammatory, oil-calming action. But when researchers gathered the studies, only about half showed a real benefit. And among acne supplements, zinc was the one most likely to cause nausea and stomach aches. It's a helper at best, not a main treatment, and swallowing supplements is a conversation to have with a doctor, not a shelf to grab from on a whim.
what the evidence says
Systematic reviews grade zinc's acne evidence as limited/inconsistent (SORT level B); oral zinc had the highest rate of adverse effects (mainly gastrointestinal) among acne nutraceuticals, and it is not an AAD first-line therapy.
