Face rollers and gua sha

Caution: Relaxing, not transformativeevidence: weak/contestedPEER-REVIEWED 2025

Rolling a cool stone across your face feels great, and honestly that's most of the appeal. The best study found only tiny, short-lived changes to face shape and no proof of the big claims. 'Lymphatic drainage,' 'sculpting,' and 'collagen boosting' just aren't backed up. It's low-risk if you're gentle and keep the tool clean, though derms have seen rashes, little burns, and infections from careless use. Enjoy it as a nice ritual, not a face-changer.

what the evidence says

The best RCT showed only modest, short-term facial-contour changes and did not measure drainage or collagen; a dermatology review notes most popular claims lack research and flags contact dermatitis, burns, and infection as real risks.
